Naples FL a Mecca for Cycling

Naples, Florida is a mecca for bicycling with spectacular weather 365 days per year, beautiful scenery, plenty of dedicated bike lanes and hospitable drivers. All ages & levels enjoy our roads and pathways for recreation, commuting and fitness training. You’ll see more people on bikes than most any place in the country. Life in Naples is very active!

Aside from being blessed with great riding weather, we have a very active bicycle community. The oldest cycling club in the area is Naples Velo ( www.NaplesVelo.ning.com ) and that organization boasts a few hundred members whose interests range from leisurely jaunts on beach cruiser bicycles to successful racing on a local, state & national levels. There are organized group rides noted on their website as well as a photo gallery.
Another active organization that is making strides for greater awareness in the community and more integrated bike paths, sidewalks & pathways being approved is the advocacy group Naples Pathways Coalition ( www.NaplesPathways.org ).

All of the cyclists, both full time & seasonal residents and tourists & regular visitors are supported by one of the best bike shops in the country, Naples Cyclery ( www.NaplesCyclery.com), which is located in the Pavilion Shopping Center on Vanderbilt Beach Road. It is a professionally operated shop that offers rental bikes, services all brands & types of bikes and sells a full range of bicycles from kids bikes to beach cruisers to recreational bikes to top-of-the line performance bikes made by Cervelo, Pinarelllo, Specialized and Guru. You’ll find all of the accessories, a full array of clothing and plenty of friendly help.

There are many safe routes around town, many of which stay west of Route 41. A favorite for all is to ride south from Pelican Bay to the Naples Pier and, if you’re feeling adventurous, travel beyond through the neighborhood of Port Royal. You’ll see and appreciate things you would never even notice from an automobile. You’ll enjoy taking in water views of several bays and the Gulf of Mexico, gorgeous  homes & lush tropical landscaping.  Stop along the way at one of the many beach access points to appreciate the color of the Gulf or take a rest on one of the bridges near Village on Venetian Bay to watch dolphins and manatee in the bay waters. Check www.MapMyRide.com for many popular cycling routes in the area.

Grab your bike, get a map and get out there!
