With warm weather and a sunny day expected, this coming Tuesday (Feb 4, 2014) make sure you mark your calendar “Canvas on Third”, as in Third Street in Olde Naples… This is an annual event and not one to be missed. Artists, chosen and sponsored by Third Street South Merchants Association, paint the wonderful buildings, fountains, plazas, and courtyards of the Third Street South historic district. The Birthplace of Naples with its original cottages, The Pier, Crayton Cove, The City Docks, and at its center, Third Street with its shops and restaurants is a perfect model. Watch the artists create their masterpieces and if you love one, bid on it at the live auction held at the end of the week. All of the art created on the street will be sold at the auction with the proceeds benefiting the the David Lawrence Center.

Abby Warman – Painting Location: 3rd St South at the south side of Fleischmann Plaza
She is a signature member of the Knickerbocker Artists and a member of Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Everhart Museum in Scranton, Pa., and was chosen as a Finalist in the Artists Magazine competition, the Raymar Fine Art Competition, and the Fine Art Studio Competition .
Alexis Martinez Puleio – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Concierbe Kiosk
Born in Lakeland, Florida, in 1987, Alexis is a young Cuban artist who expresses herself through her passion for art. This ua-and-coming artist has her art displayed throughout the U.S. She has also had her artwork exhibited and auctioned off to help support Breast Cancer Awareness at the University of Alabama.
Barbara Fink – Painting Location: 3rd St South & 13th Ave South at Beth Mone
Barbara Fink began her artistic career with a BFA majoring in Interior Design. She began her painting endeavor 10 years ago. She exhibits in Florida and Georgia and has received many awards and honors. She has been accepted to the Oil Painters of America and is a member of the Naples Art Association.

Barrett Edwards – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Marissa’s
Barrett Edwards’ first show, in Paris, France decades ago, sold out. Followed quickly by acceptance in the historic and prestigious French Salon d’Automne and two other national French shows. Today, her award-winning work is in galleries across the United States, and in the permanent collection at the Steamboat (CO) Art Museum.
Carol McArdle – Painting Location: 3rd St South at the Englishman
Carol McArdle’s bold and colorful Florida bird and landscape paintings have been featured in and on the cover of many Florida publications, in The American Art Collector Magazine, in solo shows and museum exhibits, on tour around the USA and are in public and private collections around the world.
Deborah Martin – Painting Location: 13th Ave South at Jane’s Courtyard
Deborah Martin received her MFA from the State University of New York at Albany. She has taught in the art departments of Green Mountain College and Skidmore College. Deborah is currently working in her studio/gallery in Naples, Florida.

Born in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and having lived in Kentucky, Indiana, California, Chicago and Naples, Fl. , Gail Trent Risner has had the opportunity to experience a wide variety of the country’s landscape.
Hodges Soileau – Painting Location: 3rd St South on the north side of Fleischmann Plaza
Hodges was a twenty four year member of the prestigious Society of Illustrators in New York. . He has had numerous one man shows, and has participated in group shows throughout the United States. Most recently, Hodges was awarded Signature membership status by Oil Painters of America in December 2008. He also won first place in the category, Portraits of Women, in the Members showcase of the Portrait Society of America 2009.
Jacquee Krause – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Island Company
Her versatility in such mediums as pastels, oils and acrylic paintings have enhanced many private collections. Her work has been featured in conservation fund raisers such as Magic under the Mangroves, Feasts for the Beasts in Montana, as well as participating in Naples National Art Festival and a one woman show at the Everglades Museum.
Jane Chapin – Painting Location: Crayton Cove at the City Dock
After receiving her Bachelors in Art, Chapin was an art teaching volunteer in the Peace Corps in El Salvador, further reinforcing her connection with the richness & diversity of her visual surroundings. She currently resides in St. Petersburg, where she maintains her studio. She is a member of Oil Painters of America.
Janine Wesselman – Painting Location: 3rd St South at BR Uno
This internationally known impressionist painter works primarily in France and out of her home in Connecticut. She is the first American woman to be accepted into the Collection d’Art Modern de la Ville de Paris, France. Her artwork has earned her numerous awards both here and throughout Europe.
Jessica Smith Geraghty – Painting Location: 2nd St South & 12th Ave South
This representational artist received her degree from Lehigh University. Local showings include the Naples’ Botanical Gardens’ “Art in the Garden,” Art on Useppa Island 2003, the Friends of Art Artists Studio Tour and the Edison Fort Myers Film Festival.
Juan Diaz – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Barbatella
Family values, life, freedom and love are at the core of Juan Diaz’s dramatic paintings. Working primarily in oils on canvas, Diaz depicts the strength and importance of the family bond. With an advanced understanding of anatomy and perspective, Diaz now paints award-winning works and frequently shows at prestigious exhibitions in Naples and Marco Island.
Kathryn McMahon – Painting Location: 12th Ave South at the Naples Pier
Ms. McMahon is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists, the American Impressionist Society, Women Artists of the West, Plein Air Artists Colorado and International Plein Air Painters. Her many National and International exhibitions include the Ronald Reagan Library , Coos Art Museum, the Olaf Wieghorst Museum, and the Copley Society ‘Atlantic and Beyond’ Marine Show Exhibition in Boston. As an American Impressionist Member she has shown her work in shows in Chicago, Denver, Rockport, TX. and the Master Impressionist show held in TX. Kathryn has written and published 2 books on fine art painting.
Kevin Shea – Painting Location: 3rd St South on the northern side of Tommy Bahama
The paintings of Kevin Shea reflect love for outdoor life and the visual drama of the land and sea. Canvases comprise scenes of his New England home and the Gulf Coast of Florida, where he also teaches painting workshops. His paintings have been displayed nationally with the American Artists Professional League and the Salmagundi Cub. Kevin Shea art work has been contracted by Warner Brothers for the Epic – “Mystic River”, and his classic “Twilight in the City” was a visual theme for the Boston Pops.
Maida Sperandeo R.N. – Painting Location: 3rd St South and Broad Ave on the southeast corner
Miada was born in Manhattan and grew up on the north shore of Long Island and the Hamptons. She has always been fascinated by mermaids, and anything having to do with the beach. She always incorporates things into her paintings that she’s found on the beaches of Long Island, Positano and Grand Cayman.
Mary Erickson – Painting Location: 3rd St South & Broad Ave on the Southwest corner
Mary Erickson travels extensively, painting on location, “en plein air.” Mary’s oil paintings are collected throughout the United States and Europe, and she is included in the inaugural exhibition at the Florida Museum for Women Artists in Deland, Florida. Her work was featured in a solo show at Helena Fox Fine Art in Charleston, South Carolina in May 2010.
Mary Moran: Painting Location: 3rd St South at Tony’s Off Third
Mary Moran grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Florida right after college, eventually settling in Naples in 1976. It was here that she discovered the joy of painting which she handled in a colorful naive style with much success. Her work graced the covers of several “Naples Guide” magazines and other periodicals. Mary’s love of the southwest Florida environment is expressed through her favorite subjects of landscapes, beaches and quaint cottages.
Michael Thompson – Painting Location: 3rd St South & 12th Ave South at Relax
Capturing a moment in time, the plein-air artist must go directly outdoors for the truth. Michael developed his classically trained approach by studying at the Grand Central Academy of Art and with Douglas Flynt. Beginning his paintings with an on site detailed drawing he concentrates on the dramatic effects of light in the composition.
Olena Skiba – Painting Location: 13th Ave So at Café Barcelona
Olena was born, grew up, and received her Art education in the Ukraine, which was a part of Soviet Union at the time. In 2002 Olena met her future husband in Warsaw, Poland and has relocated to his home in Naples, Florida in 2003. Today, Olena works as an artist and an interior designer (including murals). Throughout her professional life she has never stopped evolving her existing techniques as well as acquiring and inventing new ones.
Paul Arsenault – Painting Location: Crayton Cove
The well-known Paul Arsenault has lived and painted in Naples, Fl. since 1974 after graduating from the Art Institute of Boston. He maintains a studio in Naples and a summer gallery on Nantucket.
Peter Garon – Painting Location: 374 13th Ave South
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1953, Peter has always sought the skills to express himself creatively. As a child he loved art but never cared for art class, preferring instead to “figure it out” for himself, a tenacity that continues to this day. After completing formal training in architecture, Peter began a 20-year design practice in Washington, D.C. During this time he continued to explore the possibilities of a wide range of media and was represented by several galleries in the mid-atlantic region. Peter closed his successful Virginia gallery in 2006 and relocated to Naples, Florida in 2008.
Phil Fisher – Painting Location: A private club in Port Royal
Phil Fisher is one of the area’s most recognized and popular impressionist artists. He portrays visual interpretations of familiar landscapes where the viewers are coaxed into the environment with exciting colors and dramatic light that travels through each painting leaving them with an emotion that is specific to each individual work.
Popo Flanigan – Painting Location: 3rd St South behind the Concierge Kiosk
Popo spent most of her adult life designing and selling fine jewelry while taking art courses, intending to join the art world as a painter. She is energized and focused in her self practice exercise and counts varied art centers, study groups and studio chatters as her primary sources for inspiration and fine tuning her craft.
Priscilla Coote – Painting Location: 3rd Street South at Eileen Fisher
Recently relocated to Naples from the Keys, she has already become immersed in the local art scene. In the past year, she has taken awards in plein air competitions in Miami (first prize), Cape Coral, Ft. Myers Beach, and also at last year’s NAA Founder’s Show. Currently represented by Key West’s Gallery on Greene, she has also shown in Plein Air Easton and America’s Top 100.
Robert Gruppe – Painting Location: 3rd St South at 14th Ave Canal
Being the third generation of a legendary family of artists, which is almost a household name in American art, Robert Gruppe grew up in a stimulating artistic environmental. The family home and the studio of his father, Emile A. Gruppe (1896-1978), were located in Gloucester, MA, surrounded by striking water views, bustling docks and vernacular New England architecture. He works swiftly when painting outdoors, knowing that changing weather and light leaves him limited time to catch the moment. Color is applied with broad expressive brush strokes texturing impasto into a unique personal statement. Rodney Alexander Contreras – Painting Location: 3rd St South on the northern side of Sea Salt
Rodney has always been passionate about all aspects of the art world. At an early age he demonstrated his talent and creative abilities painting portraits and murals. In his adolescence, sculpture, jewelry and fashion design garnered recognition and awards at school and in his community. Today motivated by his fervent drive for vibrant colors and textures, inspired by his travel and exposure to diverse cultures around the world, Rodney has returned to his first love, painting. His artwork reflects his experience, expertise and above all his spiritual and cultural awareness.
Suzanne French Luker – Painting Location: 3rd St South & Broad Ave South on the northeast corner
This award winning American impressionist has paintings featured in private and corporate collections all over the world. Her art education started in Monterey, California, continued in Maryland, Germany, and the Washington D.C. area and culminated at the Corcoran School of Art. Since moving to Naples, she has won many awards including an Award of Excellence in the 42nd Founders Exhibition at The von Liebig Art Center.
Teresa Benjamin – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Sea Salt
Teresa has attended plein air workshops in Italy, New Mexico and Florida, and travels to new locations each year in search of new inspiration. She is a member of Naples Art Association and her work is in private collections in several states.
Timothy Davis – Painting Location: 3rd St South at Bad Ass Coffee Shop
The portfolio of Tim Davis is stunningly diverse. He has produced well over 300 canvases, panels and murals over the past 16 years, as well as reproductions, sculptures an digital art. He has also painted a fifty-five foot civic mural at the Murray city center in Salt Lake City. He now lives in Southwest Florida and creates gallery paintings in oil. Having a degree in music, Tim approaches each canvas like composing a musical score. He likes to substrate the work with deep and moody colors and then splash them with vivid light to create a depth of contrast. Tim has also done work in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Boston and Toronto.
Varik Niles – Painting Location: 13th Ave South at A Mano
Art studies at Smith College (B.A. 1961) and then subsequent work at The Guggenheim Museum in New York were the fundamental basis of Varick’s artistic training. After a long career in ceramics, followed by a job in the field of graphics, she began painting in 1991. Varick has won many awards and has had solo exhibitions in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Florida.
William Ward Moseley – Painting Location:3rd St South at Darvish Gallery
He has received “Best in Show” awards in the Naples Art Association, as well as other local art leagues, including more than 100 awards from Virginia, North Carolina, and the east coast. His work can been seen in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. He has a BS degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia and has taught work shops in Florida and throughout the east coast. Participating in many juried shows throughout his career, he has been recognized for his landscapes, as well as abstracts.
