Third on Canvas – Sunday and Monday in Naples

With warm weather and a sunny day expected, this coming Sunday, February 17th  and Monday, the 18th make sure you mark your calendar “Third on Canvas”, as in Third Street in Olde Naples. This is an annual event and not one to be missed.   Artists, chosen and sponsored by Third Street South Merchants Association, paint the wonderful buildings, fountains, plazas, and courtyards of the Third Street South historic district. The Birthplace of Naples with its original cottages, The Pier, Crayton Cove, The City Docks, and at its center, Third Street with its shops and restaurants is a perfect model.  Watch the artists create their masterpieces and if you love one, bid on it at the live auction held at the end of the week.  All of the art created on the street will be sold at the auction with the proceeds benefiting the PAWS Assistance Dogs and Foster Children Forever.

In addition to being up close and personal with the painters on Sunday and Monday, there are artist workshops on Tuesday, February 21st from 10am to 4pm offering painting tips and techniques through demonstrations. These are open to the public but, space is limited so go early. The workshops are located next to Old Naples Pub at 255 13th Avenue South.

As a child he loved art but never cared for art class, preferring instead to “figure it out” for himself, a tenacity that continues to this day. After completing formal training in architecture, Peter began a 20-year design practice in Washington, D.C. During this time he continued to explore the possibilities of a wide range of media and was represented by several galleries in the mid-atlantic region.  Peter closed his successful Virginia gallery in 2006 and relocated to Naples, Florida in 2008.

MICHAEL KILBURN12TH AVENUE SOUTH AT THE NAPLES PIER  – Michael is one of our all time favorite artists for his subject matter, technique and artistic expression. He was born in Belfast, Ireland which is the birthplace of many writers and painters. At a young age, Ontario, Canada became home for the Kilburn family. Michael always had a natural aptitude for art
and was encouraged to pursue it as a career but, the business world was to benefit from his quiver of skills and he spent 30 some years in the cosmetic industry. It was actually a great fit because he was able to utilize his love of color and texture. When his painting career began in earnest in the 90’s, his style was influenced by intensive training and studying with other artists. Today he is retired and painting full time. As he divides his time between Naples, Newfoundland and Ontario his whereabouts can be traced by his weekly e-mailing of the “Painting of the Week” to his fans and collectors.
